The 2008 100- and 200-lilangeni notes commemorate the 40th birthday of King Mswati III and the 40th anniversary of independence. They are the first in the world to use intaglio halftone technology, creating photo-like portraits, and the first notes printed on Giesecke & Devrient’s Hybrid substrate, comprised of cotton fibers sandwiched between layers of plastic.
