This 2-kina note commemorates the hosting of the 9th South Pacific Games, which ran from 7 - 21 September 1991 in the cities of Port Moresby and Lae. In addition to the South Pacific Games logo (a stylized bird of paradise in national colors, designed by art student Miria Miria), the note features SPG 9 printed at lower left on front where a second serial number would normally appear. This is Papua New Guinea’s first polymer note.
