The notes of the 1985 - 1999 series are like the preceding issues, but are reduced in size to a consistent 145 x 68 mm, bear dates of issuance, and the printer imprint appears on the back. Special symbols to aid the visually impaired appear on the front of all notes except the 1-dollar denomination. George William Gordon (1820 – 23 October 1865) was a wealthy mixed-race Jamaican businessman, magistrate and politician, one of two representatives to the Assembly from St. Thomas-in-the-East Parish. He was a leading critic of the colonial government and the policies of Jamaican Governor Edward Eyre.
