In 1902, the Van Siebergen leather factory on the Laagstraat in Rijen had to close. In 1906, Isidore Gottschalk continued the company under the name N.V. Nederlandse Stoomlederfabriek. Gottschalk was a leather manufacturer in Liège. He started with the manufacture of sole leather under the name 'Ouwe Reijen'. The leather acquired a good reputation far beyond Rijen. Production rose to 38,000 hides per year in 1914. Due to war conditions, production fell to 10,000 units per year in 1917, only to rise again quickly after 1919. In 1928 the factory was sold to P. Rompa from Terheijden, who continued the company under the name Rompa-leder B.V.
